Abstract

The rapid development of electric vehicles (EVs) has introduced significant challenges related to thermal management of battery and electric motor systems. Excessive heat generation during high-power operation, fast charging, and extreme environmental conditions can negatively affect battery performance, reduce energy efficiency, and accelerate component degradation. This research investigates advanced thermal management strategies for improving the efficiency, reliability, and lifetime of EV powertrain systems. The study focuses on the analysis of heat generation mechanisms in lithium-ion battery packs and electric motors, along with the evaluation of various cooling approaches, including air cooling, liquid cooling, phase change materials (PCM), and hybrid thermal management systems. A comprehensive optimization framework is proposed to maintain the operating temperature within the optimal range while minimizing energy consumption from auxiliary cooling systems. The relationship between thermal behavior, battery aging, motor performance, and overall vehicle efficiency is analyzed. The findings aim to provide effective solutions for enhancing EV driving range, charging performance, and long-term durability through improved thermal regulation. This research contributes to the development of next-generation electric vehicle systems with higher efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
