Modal Analysis of Orthotropic Laminated Composite Material Using FEM
Abstract
This work involves simulating the dynamic behavior of orthotropic laminated epoxy/carbon composite materials using the Comsol Multiphysics software based on the finite element method. The aim of this paper is to study the influence of several parameters on the natural frequency and vibrational modes. The parameters examined in this paper are: layer stacking sequence, fiber orientation, and number of layers under free–clamped boundary conditions. The results show that these parameters have a major influence on the dynamic behavior of composites, and they must be taken into consideration in order to design a more efficient composite material by avoiding resonance frequencies and it makes possible to obtain the desired natural frequencies without increasing mass or changing geometry.
