Abstract

The aging process involves a series of physical changes that socially characterize old age; this is why the perception of vitality in older adulthood is prejudiced and affected, especially for those who suffer from pathologies that could impair their functionality. Consequently, this study aimed to determine the psychometric properties of the Functional Appreciation Scale in Mexican older adults. A total of 357 participants were collected, subdivided into two samples, and asked to complete a battery of tests consisting of the target scale and tests to assess self-esteem, gratitude, and body appreciation. All evaluations were conducted individually and face-to-face. Among the main results, the one-dimensionality of the scale was confirmed in both the exploratory factor analysis (86.42% of variance explained) and the confirmatory factor analysis ( x 2  = 20.2, gl  = 14, p  = .13; NNFI = .99, NFI = .976, CFI = .996, RMSEA = .045). Likewise, strong and statistically significant associations ( p  < .0001) were observed between the measurement system and body appreciation ( r s = .33), gratitude ( r s = .41), and self-esteem ( r s = .48). The results obtained are discussed in the context of previous adoptions, particularly in studies that validated the instrument in older adults.
